Term: Sow susceptibility

Mostly relevant in challenge studies. But it is important knowlegde whether the sows have been tested for suceptibility to the pathogen that you want to use in your experiement. As some individuals are naturally resistant and this could potentially be passed down to the piglets, making them less vulnerable for the challenge. Homozygous carrier of the FUT1 gene refers to a gene that indicates that the sows are genetically suceptible to fimbrial adhesion of E.coli
